Have you ever wondered why you need a marriage license to get married? Why does the state care? Well, the answer to the first question is you don’t need a license. There is no obligation by the individual to get permission from the state, which then by the way subjects you, your spouse and also your kids to their jurisdiction.

Then why do you need a license? It’s simple really. It’s all about money and control. The minister or church that marries you would lose its tax-exempt status. It’s one of the many ways the state exercises control.

Why does the state care? The laws were originally put in place during the mid-1800s to prevent interracial marriage. They started out racist. Imagine that. Slowly they evolved like most government does to get bigger for the sake of getting bigger.

Why are they still in place? Nobody is stepping up to challenge it.

Think about it.
